What Is the Official Tim Hortons Count?
Restaurant Brands International (RBI), which owns Tim Hortons, does not publish a Canada-only number. It reports Tim Hortons in Canada and the U.S. as one segment, and that segment had 4,570 restaurants on June 30, 2026, up from 4,521 a year earlier.
Subtract the U.S. and you get the Canadian figure. Location tracker ScrapeHero counted 697 U.S. Tim Hortons on August 26, 2026, which leaves about 3,870 in Canada. That fits what Tim Hortons executives told The Globe and Mail in May 2026, when they described the chain as having roughly 4,000 Canadian locations.
Why Do Sources Give Different Numbers?
Totals you see online range from about 3,500 to more than 4,000, because each source counts something different. Official filings count full restaurants. Map-based trackers scrape listings, which can miss self-serve kiosks or count a closed store twice. Older articles are simply out of date.

The two trackers disagree on totals, but they agree on the order. Ontario has about half of all locations and Quebec about 16%. Treat each figure as an estimate, not an official count.
Which Cities Have the Most Tim Hortons?
Toronto has the most Tim Hortons of any Canadian city, followed by Calgary and Edmonton. ScrapeHero's March 2026 city list puts Toronto at 176 locations, Calgary at 132, Edmonton at 113, Mississauga at 109 and Winnipeg at 79.
Those city counts use postal addresses, so Toronto's figure does not include North York (90) or Scarborough (79). Counted together, the old Metro Toronto area has well over 300 Tim Hortons.
Is Tim Hortons Opening New Locations in Canada?
Yes. Tim Hortons plans to open about 80 new Canadian restaurants in 2026 and renovate 400 more. It announced the plan in May 2026. About a third of the new stores will be in Ontario, with more planned for Western Canada and Quebec.
This is a change of pace. Chief operating officer Naira Saeed told The Globe and Mail that the restaurant count "has been fairly static since 2019", while Canada's population grew about 10% over the same period. RBI is putting about $130 million into the 2026 plan, and franchisees are adding another $270 million.
